GMEP 2025 Global Medical Device Export Consultation: Bangladesh Medical Device Demand Analysis

GMEP 2025: What Is the Global Medical Equipment Export Consultation?

GMEP, short for Global Medical Equipment Partnership, is a large-scale B2B consultation program that connects Korean medical device companies with overseas buyers. It is jointly organized by KOTRA and the Korea Medical Devices Industry Association, and each year brings together more than 300 buyers from over 50 countries.

Bangladesh is a core export destination for Korean medical device firms because its medical device market is estimated at USD 800 million and remains about 90% dependent on imports. Through meetings with Bangladeshi buyers at GMEP 2025, Korean suppliers can pursue export openings in diagnostic equipment, imaging systems, surgical instruments, dental devices, and medical consumables.

Bangladesh Medical Device Market Analysis

Bangladesh's medical device market has grown into an estimated USD 800 million sector. Demand is rising at more than 12% annually, supported by public healthcare infrastructure expansion, growth in private hospitals, and the broader push toward universal health coverage. Because domestic manufacturing remains limited, imported equipment continues to dominate across nearly all major product segments.

Export Strategy for Korean Medical Device Companies

01
Use GMEP Buyer Matching Aggressively
Participate in GMEP 2025 and target one-to-one meetings with 10 to 15 Bangladeshi medical device importers. Prepare English product catalogues, FOB or CIF price lists, and DGDA-related technical documents in advance. When KOTRA support is available, up to 50% of participation costs may be subsidized.
02
Prioritize Diagnostic Imaging Equipment
In Bangladesh's USD 200 million imaging market, Korean suppliers can position digital X-ray, ultrasound, and C-arm systems as strong value-for-money alternatives. The sales pitch should emphasize better image quality and durability than lower-cost Chinese products, while highlighting a more accessible price point than Japanese or German equipment.
03
Expand into the IVD Segment
Bangladesh's IVD market, estimated at USD 120 million, is supported by sustained demand for diabetes, hepatitis, and tuberculosis testing. Korean suppliers of point-of-care test kits and automated analyzers can benefit from post-pandemic expansion in the country's diagnostic infrastructure.
04
Target Dental and Ophthalmic Niches
Dental equipment, valued at roughly USD 60 million, and ophthalmic equipment, around USD 40 million, are both expanding with the growth of private clinics. Korean brands can compete on both quality and pricing, making exclusive distribution agreements with specialized Dhaka-based importers a practical route to market.
05
Select Local Agents Carefully
Medical device exports depend heavily on DGDA registration, bid participation, installation, and after-sales service. The best local partners are those with a credible DGDA track record, experience in public hospital tenders, and an established service workforce. When negotiating exclusive terms, Korean exporters should also set clear minimum purchase commitments.

Bangladesh's medical device market offers a structural export opportunity defined by 90% import dependence and annual growth above 12%. When systematic buyer matching through GMEP 2025 is paired with a disciplined DGDA registration strategy, Korean medical device companies can accelerate their market entry and build stronger long-term positions in Bangladesh.
