Bangladesh Industrial IoT in 2020
Bangladeshs industrial Internet of Things, or IIoT, market was valued at about 80M in 2020 and has been growing at an annual pace of roughly 25 percent. The three largest use cases were manufacturing, energy, and agriculture, with rapid expansion driven by 4G coverage of 60 percent and low-cost sensor deployment.
Korean IoT sensors, platforms, and communication technology maintain strong competitiveness in the Bangladeshi IIoT market, especially in industrial hardware and monitoring systems.
Manufacturing IoT: Garment and Pharmaceutical Plants
In garment factories, IoT has primarily been used for equipment monitoring such as uptime and failure prediction, environment management through humidity and light controls, and energy consumption tracking. In pharmaceutical plants, continuous monitoring of temperature, humidity, and clean-room conditions for GMP compliance shows the highest adoption rate in manufacturing at around 15 percent.
| Application | Sensor Type | Adoption Rate | Impact | Korean Suppliers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Equipment Monitoring | Vibration, Current, Temperature | 8% | Failure 30% lower | TPC, Korea Hanwha Vision |
| Environment Management | Humidity, CO2, Light | 12% | LEED readiness | Incoread, EcoSense |
| Energy Tracking | Power and Gas Meters | 10% | Cost 15% lower | KDN, Nuri Telecom |
| GMP Monitoring | Temperature, Humidity, Clean-Room | 15% | Regulatory compliance | Telsta, Air Korea |
| Quality Inspection | Vision, Weight, Dimension | 5% | Defects 20% lower | SuLab, NextEye |
Energy and Agricultural IoT
In energy, BPDB is pushing smart metering expansion with an Automatic Metering Infrastructure program for an estimated 5M household rollout, and remote monitoring demand for plants and substations through SCADA integration is rising. In agriculture, aquaculture water-quality control, irrigation automation, and livestock environment monitoring are in early rollout.
Korean IoT Entry Strategy
Korean IoT firms can enter Bangladesh through three practical channels: sensor and hardware exports, platform solution exports, and communication infrastructure deployment. BPDB smart metering (around 200M) and BEZA smart-zone infrastructure are the strongest near-term opportunities.
