Faridpur-Barishal Highway Construction

Faridpur-Barishal Highway Overview

The Faridpur-Barishal Highway is a core trunk road project connecting the south-central corridor of Bangladesh. By linking Faridpur and Barishal more directly, the project is designed to improve transport access to the southern coastal belt and reduce logistics costs across the region.

Commissioned by the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), the project is expected to serve as one of the key feeder arteries in the post-Padma Bridge southern transport network.

Opportunities for Korean Companies

01
Road EPC Participation
Korean construction firms can participate in EPC packages covering embankment works, asphalt paving, bridge construction, and drainage systems along the 120 km corridor. Segment-based procurement also allows multiple firms to join separate packages. Korea can leverage its expressway construction track record as a reference.
02
Soft Ground Treatment
Ground improvement across more than 40 km of soft alluvial terrain is one of the project's key technical challenges. Korean know-how in PVD, sand compaction piles, preloading, and related ground stabilization methods is directly relevant.
03
Road Equipment and Materials Exports
The project creates export opportunities for asphalt plants, rollers, paving equipment, guardrails, road signage, and lighting systems. Korean suppliers are well positioned where international quality compliance is required.
04
ITS Deployment
An intelligent transport systems package could improve traffic management efficiency on the corridor. Korea has exportable capabilities in CCTV, vehicle detectors, variable message signs, and electronic tolling solutions.
