Emergency Protocol

Follow these five steps in the event of an emergency during your stay in Bangladesh. During periods of political instability — such as the July–August 2024 unrest — regularly monitor Embassy safety advisories.

01
Step 1 — Secure Immediate Safety
If protests or strikes (Hartal/Blockade) occur, avoid going out and remain in your accommodation or office. Vehicle movement can be extremely dangerous; avoid major intersections and areas near universities in central Dhaka. Always maintain a 3-day emergency supply of drinking water and food.
02
Step 2 — Contact the Embassy
Embassy of the Republic of Korea emergency contacts: +880-2-55068731 (business hours), +880-1713-XXXXXX (after-hours emergency line). Check safety advisories through the overseas safety travel app (SafeTravel), and register as an overseas national if you have not already done so.
03
Step 3 — Communicate via Korean Community Networks
Real-time situation updates are shared through Korean Association KakaoTalk groups and Korean Business Association WhatsApp groups. If internet access is blocked (as occurred in 2024), attempt communication via satellite phone or VPN.
04
Step 4 — Medical Emergency
For medical emergencies involving traffic accidents or illness, use the emergency room at United Hospital (+880-2-8401661) or Square Hospital (+880-2-8159457). Always carry your travel insurance or expatriate health insurance documentation.
05
Step 5 — Emergency Evacuation and Departure
If the Embassy issues an emergency evacuation advisory, proceed to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC). If the airport is closed, assess overland evacuation to India via Kolkata (Benapole/Banpole border crossing). Back up your passport and visa copies to cloud storage.

This directory is the starting point for doing business in Bangladesh. During the initial investment phase, use KOTRA Dhaka Trade Center as your primary resource; engage local legal and tax firms early. Contact information is subject to change due to office relocations and personnel turnover — always verify the latest details on official websites before making important calls.
