LGED Garbage Compactor Procurement Overview
Bangladesh's Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is undertaking large-scale procurement of garbage compactors to modernize municipal waste management. In response to rapid urbanization, rising waste volumes, and stronger public sanitation demands, local authorities are gradually replacing open collection trucks with enclosed compactor vehicles. Tenders are typically issued through the public e-GP system, and donor-funded urban sanitation projects are also active.
Urban Waste Management Conditions and Constraints
Bangladesh's urban waste collection rate stands at roughly 55%, meaning a large share of municipal waste is still not collected properly. Dhaka alone generates around 6,000 tons of waste per day, but collection infrastructure remains insufficient, contributing to illegal dumping and environmental degradation. LGED supports waste management in secondary cities by supplying equipment to City Corporations and Pourashabhas.
