Gas Meter Procurement Overview
Bangladesh is a natural-gas-dependent economy, using gas extensively in power generation (about 65%), industry (about 18%), and households (about 12%). To improve distribution efficiency and billing accuracy, the country is pushing a transition from conventional diaphragm meters to smart gas meters. Major gas distribution companies such as Titas Gas, Bakhrabad Gas, and Jalalabad Gas are issuing large-scale meter replacement tenders through the public procurement system.
Key Gas Distribution Companies and Procurement Status
Bangladesh's natural gas distribution system is operated by six state-owned companies with regional mandates. Titas Gas, the largest operator, serves Dhaka and Mymensingh; Bakhrabad Gas covers Chattogram and Cumilla; and Jalalabad Gas is responsible for Sylhet and Habiganj. Each distributor independently tenders meter replacement and new installation projects, while Petrobangla oversees sector-wide policy.
