Consumer Insights

01
K-Beauty Awareness: Strongest Among Younger Consumers
According to an on-site COSMETICA survey (N=500), 78% of Bangladeshi women aged 18-30 recognize K-beauty brands, and 45% have used at least one K-beauty product. For 65% of respondents, Korean cosmetics were first discovered through K-dramas and K-pop, confirming that the Korean Wave remains the primary driver of market awareness. Preferred channels were Instagram (42%), Facebook (35%), and TikTok (23%).
02
Price Sensitivity: The $3-8 Range Is the Core Sweet Spot
For Bangladeshi consumers, the main purchase range for K-beauty products is 300-800 taka ($3-8). Brands positioned as affordable or mid-range in Korea at $10-15 are often perceived as premium products in Bangladesh. The most popular items are sheet masks (50-150 taka), BB cream (300-500 taka), and sunscreen (400-700 taka). Higher-priced products above $15 are sold only in limited volumes at premium outlets in Dhaka.
03
Halal Certification: Not Mandatory, but a Strong Differentiator
Although Bangladesh has a Muslim population of around 90%, halal certification is not legally mandatory for cosmetics. Even so, K-beauty products carrying halal certification record consumer trust levels more than 30% higher and tend to secure distributor approvals faster. For products involving direct oral or skin contact, such as lip items, toothpaste, and body wash, halal certification is effectively close to essential.
04
Distribution Channels: Offline Retail and Social Commerce in Parallel
K-beauty distribution in Bangladesh is split between offline retail (60%) and online channels (40%). Offline sales are concentrated in beauty stores located in major Dhaka shopping centers such as Bashundhara City and Jamuna Future Park. Online sales rely on e-commerce marketplaces such as Daraz and Evaly, along with Facebook and Instagram social commerce. More recently, K-beauty sales through live commerce, especially via Facebook Live, have been growing quickly.
