Overview of 4-Digit MTI Import Statistics
The MTI (Ministry of Trade and Industry) classification is an industry-based trade categorization system used by Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Unlike HS codes, it groups products by industrial use and business function. This article reviews Korea's imports from Bangladesh from 2022 to November 2023 through the 4-digit MTI lens to identify the structure of imports and recent shifts by industry.

Comparison of HS and MTI Classification
Import Trend
The 4-digit MTI analysis shows that Korea's imports from Bangladesh remain concentrated in apparel, with knit and woven garments together accounting for 60%, but the expansion of non-apparel segments such as leather (+10%), fishery products (+8%), agricultural goods (+15%), and jute (+18%) is increasingly evident. Using MTI together with HS analysis helps decision-makers understand both industry-level policy implications and item-level trade movements at the same time.
