Sylhet-Sheola Road Project

Sylhet-Sheola Road Project Overview

The Sylhet-Sheola Road project is a border-road construction and expansion scheme linking Sylhet in northeastern Bangladesh to Sheola, a border town adjacent to India. It is designed to serve as a key overland corridor for Bangladesh-India border trade while supporting regional economic development.

Sylhet is the center of Bangladesh's tea industry and a trade gateway to India's northeastern Seven Sisters states. By upgrading the poor condition of the existing two-lane road, the project aims to expand border trade volumes and reduce logistics costs.

Opportunities for Korean Companies

01
Road EPC Construction
Korean construction firms can participate in EPC packages for the 65km road expansion. The scope includes cut-and-fill work in hilly terrain, asphalt paving, and drainage construction. Korea's experience in expanding national highways can serve as a practical reference.
02
Modernization of Border Facilities
The modernization of the Sheola Land Customs Station offers room for Korean participation. Electronic customs clearance systems, X-ray screening equipment, vehicle weighing systems, and CCTV security infrastructure can be supplied using Korea's customs IT capabilities. UNI-PASS exports by the Korea Customs Service are a strong reference point.
03
Bridge and Drainage Structures
The Sylhet region has many rivers, so the project is expected to require more than 15 bridges and large drainage structures. Korean bridge technologies, including PC box girder and steel composite girder construction, can be applied to these packages.
04
Road Safety and Traffic Management
Border roads carry a high volume of heavy cargo traffic, making safety facilities essential. Korean suppliers can export guardrails, signage, lighting, and overload enforcement systems while also introducing ITS solutions for corridor management.
